Project Write Now is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit transforming individuals, organizations, and communities through writing. Since 2014, we’ve been committed to building a vibrant writing community for youth and adults.
We provide a wide range of fee-based virtual classes, editorial services, and literary events.
At the heart of our mission is our community outreach programs for underserved groups. These programs help youth and adults develop the writing and communication skills needed to build resilience, pursue personal growth, and achieve academic or professional success.
Some examples of our long-standing programs include weekly expressive writing workshops for 7th and 8th graders at Red Bank Middle School, bi-monthly workshops for members of Shore House (adults living with mental illness) in Long Branch, college essay coaching for eligible students who can’t afford our services, and workshops for mentorship programs, such as Womyn’s Worth at Lunch Break.

PWN Philosophy
Our primary goal in class is to help writers move forward. For transformation to be possible, we believe a writer must feel supported to explore the truth of their story. We aim to give the freedom needed to open up creatively and make the discoveries that are the treasures we reach for—the truths that reveal themselves when we remain honest and stay the course in our storytelling. We allow any kind of storytelling, and while a genre or particular style may not appeal to one of us, we try as best we can to support one another as writers. We ask that feedback be given in the interest of making a story stronger in its own right, not necessarily to our own tastes.
Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
Our organization was founded to help amplify the voices of those who are often not heard—including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+ individuals, and other historically marginalized groups. We have witnessed how writing and sharing stories has the power to effect change by generating greater love, compassion, and empathy in the listener. In all of our programs, we provide an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming environment. We do not tolerate writing that perpetuates harmful stereotypes or fuels hate. Failure to align with our philosophy can result in your removal from class.
Safety & Sensitivity
Due to the personal nature of our work, many emotions can and do arise. Some subject matter can be disturbing due to a reader’s sensibility or personal history. While we choose not to censor a writer, we ask writers to please be mindful of a reader’s potential reaction and provide content warnings when necessary (for example, violence, sexual violence, abuse, self harm, animal cruelty, death, etc.).
Confidentiality
In the interest of creative freedom, intellectual property, and protecting real-life character identities during the drafting and revision processes, the content of our classes is to remain confidential. “What happens at PWN stays at PWN.”
Intellectual Property
All paper manuscripts are the intellectual property of the writer and must be returned (unless other arrangements have been made with the writer’s written approval). We also ask students to delete original writing that has been shared electronically.
