We celebrate love every day at PWN, but our interns wanted to do something special for the month of February. We hope you enjoy this poem that they have created by stringing together lines of love shared by writers from: our teen and adult classes, community outreach programs (including our PWN India Writing Group!) as well as our social media platforms. Thank you to all who submitted a line for us!
Love is …
Love is companionship,
friendship, and commitment.
Love is walking in the park
and listening to the birds chirp.
Love is picking up your trash and
cleaning your room before being asked.
Love is making the coffee
the night before
and setting the timer.
Love is volunteering to get out of bed,
go down to the kitchen,
pour the coffee,
and bring it to your spouse in bed.
Wait, maybe love is coffee.
Or love is sharing your snack
or a pizza
with a friend.
Love is giving your lunch money
to a friend who forgot theirs.
Love takes turns playing games.
Love is the light left on the front porch
until everyone is home safely.
Love is saying, “I’m here.”
Love is when their presence feels like home.
Love is being with the right person.
Love is watching a movie with my grandma.
Love is a dog, a blanket, and pajamas.
Love is a shelter in the storm.
Love is the utter joy of a bright-eyed child,
the weighted warmth of a child
snuggled safely on your chest.
Love is my daughter.
Love is as fiction—
a million dancing fairies bred from a baby’s laugh.
Love is the golden memories that make your heart sing.
Love is what people do, not what they say.
Love is holding a door open for someone.
Love is saying “hi” to a teacher in the hallway
or saying “hi” to a stranger.
Love is shoveling snow for a neighbor
or caring for a younger sibling
when a parent has to work.
Love is helping a friend with homework.
Love is saying “I love you” to your parents.
Love is paying attention.
Love is saying “I’m sorry” to a friend.
Love is never having to …
nope, love is saying sorry often and sincerely.
But love is also forgiving.
Love is honest.
Love is also knowing you don’t have to talk
if you don’t want to.
Love is listening deeply.
Love is knowing the person who loves you
will always love you.
Love is genuine compassion.
Love is unbridled passion.
Love is kind. Love is blind.
Love is bittersweet.
Love is writing about you,
and never showing you what I’ve written.
Love is painting a picture
with bright colored paints.
Love is a longing kiss in snow.
Love is an embrace in the rain.
Love is a poet’s muse.
Love is gritty & soaring,
grinding & transcendent,
mysterious & earthy,
silly & smart,
rich & plain,
you & me.
Love is a language anyone can speak.
Love is love is love is love is love is an echo.
Love is contagious.
Love can be found around us.
Love is resilience;
it can live on and on forever.
Love is innate to us all,
meaning it never leaves us;
calling it back home opens wide love’s doors
to ourselves and to others.
Love is the reality of the entire world.
Love is the companionship success story
of the universe.
Love is everything I am.
