
Shanda McManus
Biography
Shanda McManus is a family medicine physician. She has been privileged to be a part of the PWN community since 2018. Shanda believes in the power of stories to heal. She writes about the intersection of life, race, and medicine. You can find her writing in Intima Journal of Narrative Medicine, Midnight & Indigo, Bellevue Literary Review, and forthcoming in Crazyhorse. Shanda was delighted to be selected as a 2021 PEN America Emerging Voices fellow. When Shanda is not seeing patients or writing, she binge reads and rides a bike that goes nowhere. She lives in Fair Haven with her husband and five children. Shanda is currently working on a memoir, Missing Pieces, that explores her childhood experiences growing up in Philadelphia beneath the shadow of her parent’s marital discord and her mother’s terminal illness.
