Description
Ages 12-18
Does the life of a writer call to you? Do you want to get your writing out into the world? Do you want to develop the skills to craft compelling pieces that you can submit to prestigious contests and publications? Writing is a superpower that builds confidence, creates opportunities, and changes lives.
During this class, we generate, revise, and polish a variety of writing pieces that capture your style and range, employing genres, characters, themes, and approaches unique to your voice. We spend the first few weeks drafting pieces using prompts and mentor texts as inspiration. Then we move into a revision phase during which we offer peer and instructor feedback to make the pieces stronger. In our final stage, we provide content editing as well as line editing. At the end of the session, writers are guided through submitting selected pieces to local and national contests and publications, including the prestigious Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Learn the valuable skill of completing projects that showcase your hard work, dedication, and talent.
