There are many elements that go into making a screenplay exciting: premise, story, plot, conflict, character desire, stakes, theme, and dialogue. However, without the proper structure in place, the script often fails to engage the audience and turns into a dud. Using Blake Snyder’s Save the Cat methodology, we analyze The Wizard of Oz and Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War. We identify the 15 key “beats” or plot points that provide the entertaining blueprint for these iconic films. You walk away with the knowledge and tools to apply this beat formula to your own writing. This entry-level course is a prerequisite for the yearlong 2021 Teen Screenplay Incubator Program that launches in January.
