Do you want to write your story in a way that makes readers go WOW! During this class, we learn how to dig deep into our lives and brainstorm the stories that have meant something to us, such as a family trip or a day spent with a loved one. Then we zoom in closer to find the ah-ha moment that gets at the heart of the story and answers the question “What am I really trying to say here?” For inspiration and guidance, we look at authors such as Roald Dahl, Bevery Cleary, Kevin Henkes, and Ezra Jack Keats to discover what craft moves they use so we can experiment and take our writing to the next level. We learn the importance of each stage of the writing process—from jotting down ideas and making timelines and outlines to developing characters and building tension to revising and editing—so by the end we have lots of stories in our folders but at least one finished piece we can share during our last class.
Please note: All classes are currently taught through Zoom video conferencing and/or the online platform Wet Ink. Your instructor will email a link before the first class. Classes will move back to the studio as soon as that is possible. If you have any questions about how to use Zoom, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We offer financial assistance through our scholarship program. Download an application here.
