Cartooning Lessons: A Workshop
How comics work and what they have taught me
Join award-winning cartoonist Mike Dawson for a hands-on workshop designed to teach you the nuts and bolts of cartooning and to get you comfortable telling stories using the language of comics. In this 90-minute workshop, you learn how comics work and what makes them different from other forms of writing. You experience drawing demonstrations and discover the importance of distinctive character design. Learn how to see the world as a writer in order to find new ideas and gain inspiration.
This workshop is geared for adults but teens ages 16 and up are welcome to attend.

Our organization was founded to help amplify the voices of those who are often not heard—including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+ individuals, and other historically marginalized groups. We have witnessed how writing and sharing stories has the power to effect change by generating greater love, compassion, and empathy in the listener. In all of our programs, we provide an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming environment. We do not tolerate writing that perpetuates harmful stereotypes or fuels hate. Failure to align with our philosophy can result in your removal from class.
