Description
Just Write
Free the writer within.
Do you want to write but have no idea where to start? Do nerves prevent you from joining a writing class? This class is aimed at the shy, closeted, or new writer. In a supportive environment, we invite you into the storytelling mindset with the help of guided writing prompts. We bring in mentor texts as inspiration―including samples of fiction, poetry, memoir, essay, and more―and we motivate you to start and continue your own writing practice. Each week we come together to discover the stories we really want to tell and generate ways to get them onto the page.

“The safe environment and the writing prompts in the Just Write class allowed me to open up so that the creativity could flow!”
Meet Your Instructor: Eileen Whitener
“My favorite thing about the Just Write class is how joyful and freeing it can be to just … write! Writing is restorative and a satisfying creative outlet that any of us can do. This class has no homework. We read short poems, stories, or essays together and then write based on related words, ideas, and prompts. Every day you walk away having written a few new things! You also meet other people who want to write more and have the chance to share your writing.”

Our organization was founded to help amplify the voices of those who are often not heard—including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+ individuals, and other historically marginalized groups. We have witnessed how writing and sharing stories has the power to effect change by generating greater love, compassion, and empathy in the listener. In all of our programs, we provide an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming environment. We do not tolerate writing that perpetuates harmful stereotypes or fuels hate. Failure to align with our philosophy can result in your removal from class.
