Description
Memoir Intensive
Illuminate the emotional truth of your story.
Are you ready to take your stories to the next level? This class is the perfect place for you to workshop your writing so you can gain insight into how to further develop your project. We explore the emotional truth in your experiences and then experiment with the best form to convey your story—for example, short memoir, play, book-length. We also read mentor texts in a variety of genres to analyze the narrative techniques an author utilizes—such as characterization, voice, imagery, and structure—and the achieved effect on the reader.
This class requires instructor approval. Please email wi@projectwritenow.org for more information.
Testimonial:
“In the Memoir Writing Intensive class, I was able to take my personal stories to the next level and craft them into narrative essays that eventually were ready to submit for publication. I learned so much from Jennifer about my emotional truth. And her enthusiasm for writing and memoir is infectious!”

“We all have stories that need to be told. This class gives you a dedicated space and the support of a committed community of writers to explore how you want to tell yours. We talk a lot in memoir about being vulnerable, and through experimentation with form, we not only hone our voices but also illuminate the emotional truth of our stories, connecting with our readers on a deeper level.”

Our organization was founded to help amplify the voices of those who are often not heard—including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+ individuals, and other historically marginalized groups. We have witnessed how writing and sharing stories has the power to effect change by generating greater love, compassion, and empathy in the listener. In all of our programs, we provide an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming environment. We do not tolerate writing that perpetuates harmful stereotypes or fuels hate. Failure to align with our philosophy can result in your removal from class.
